IST Goes To Culture Cartel 2018

Tanggal 1-2 Desember kemarin, Indonesia Sneaker Team (IST) berkesempatan untuk menghadiri undangan dari event Culture Cartel 2018. Bertempat di F1 Pit Building, Singapore.
Ini event pertama di SG yg gak bertemakan bazaar atau sekedar acara jual beli, tapi lebih bertema exhibition, yang menyuguhkan konten yg berbobot dan menarik.
Kenapa menarik? Karena di event ini mulai dari Art, Toys, Tattoo, Fashion hingga para penggiat sneakers berkumpul di bawah satu payung "Street Culture".
Sehingga visitor terutama mereka yang mempunyai banyak interest akan terpuaskan, pun bagi mereka yang awam, diharapkan akan terbuka matanya dengan dunia 
street culture yang memang beraneka ragam isinya.

 

 

 

Event ini jg banyak menampilkan kolaborasi menarik. Contohnya, kolaborasi antara Mark Ong dari SBTG dengan Asics Tiger. Joshua Vides dengan Mercedes Benz.
Brand Levi’s dan Skechers dengan beberapa graffiti artist. Nike AF1 custom experience by Jo Hypethetic.  Ada jg display koleksi mainan Bearbrick dan Kaws oleh kolektor Edward Ng.
Tidak ketinggalan, event ini pun mendatangkan Stash, salah satu oldhead / pemain lama di skena graffiti, ditambah pemutaran film "OBEY GIANT: The Art and Dissent of Shepard Fairey". Ada pula brand streetwear clothing yg diundang, baik dari domestik maupun luar SG sendiri. Beberapa retail store yang sudah dikenal pun ikut meramaikan,
seperti LimitedEdt. (LE) yg banyak merilis koleksi sepatu terbaru seperti AJ 11 concord, Nike x Carhartt series, juga beberapa jenis adidas yeezy dijual dgn harga retail.
Ada pula beberapa Tattoo artist terkenal yg ikut meramaikan dan membuka jasa tattoo tersebut langsung di tempat, juga arena indoor skateboarding yang disponsori Vans.

 

 

 

 

 

Hari kedua dari Culture Cartel ini diisi oleh talkshow berkualitas dengan panelis yang terdiri dari para ahli di bidangnya masing masing.
Ada Stash (Graffiti Artist), dan Joshua Vides (Street & Contemporary Artist), kami dari IST sangat beruntung bisa mengajukan beberapa pertanyaan
dalam Q&A Session, yang di rekap sebagai berikut:

(IST): "There’s a line says: ‘There’s nothing new under the sun’ and I think we’re all agreed about that..  How do you cope with people who says you’re biting another artist..?"

(JV): "One..I think that's no true... "There's nothing new under the sun".. I think that's a very negative way of thinking..and that's halting other people to be creative... so I'm not about that at all...


Second... for all the people sayin' like I'm ripping (another artist's work).. I'm not the first person to do this..
y'know.. Bill Barminski is done it.. Jean Debuffet is done it.. Roy Lichenstein's done it.. fu*kin twenty people had done it.. I just did it better..  Roy Lichenstein and Jean Debuffet might be the sh*t.. they're dope.. unfortunately they're dead.. y'know.. If they're alive today.. If Roy (Lichenstein) is alive today.. I guaranteed you, he'll get a Nike deal, or an Adidas deal.. 100% percent. Right?? 


Like, He'd be crushing the shoe game.. because all the people are into sneakers game now right?
And I've been asked about Bill Barminski all the time.. I see what he's doin', and it's cool.. But, I move differently, I marked myself differently.. I'm able to influence and work with people like you (he's pointing at us).. and I chose to work with sneakers, because I know it'll make an impact.. and my mind thinks differently, so I can mark myself differently.. and I have a shoe collaboration next year.."

(IST): "We knew you are amongst the pioneers of street art with Keith (Haring) and Basquiat, and making impact for the culture since then.. with your art and collaborations on different medias: (sneakers –nike, reebok, vans, etc-) , gshocks, bearbricks, spraycans. What’s your favorite media or platform for doing collabs and why?"
 

(STH): "Whoa.. that's one hard question.. I like working on all mediums.. I mean.. I like working on sneakers because the culture is so rich.. and big.. unlike any other mediums I've worked on, the excitement around a piece of footwear is just huge, so that's very fun to be part of this culture..

 

(IST): "Everyone in this business knew  u’re one of the OG.. but maybe, the new generations, aka the young hypebeasts.. whose highly influenced by influencers from social medias, may unfamiliar with your name.. some says your latest collabs (Air Spiridon) were hitting the SALE rack.. the culture has change now, what is your opinion regarding this? What kind of approach were you did to reach this ‘new generations’..? "

(STH): "The Air Spiridon hitting the sale rack.. we don't get involve in sales or marketing.. the companies dealt with that. And yeah, I was a little surprised about the Spiridon as well..  I don't know whats happen..but I guess it happens with may artists.. so we just got to keep it real.."

 

Dan berikut beberapa potret keseruan event Culture Cartel 2018.. hopefully, tahun 2019 nanti akan banyak lagi acara serupa, terutama di dalam negeri nih..
